About Quilting Bee Designs

Welcome to Quilting Bee Designs. I specialize in Redwork Embroidery patterns. My patterns are my original designs and are unusual, and completely different, from any others on the market. I know you will like them.

I have been a Quilter and Needleworker for most of my life. I worked in a fabric store for several years before opening my own Quilt Shop, "The Hemet Valley Quilting Bee" in Hemet, CA in 1979. I taught at my shop and several others over the years, in many techniques.

I started the local Quilt Show as a store project in 1980. My customers, students and their husbands helped so much. Partly because of the friends we all made while working on the show, we started the first local Quilt Guild, the "Valley Quilters", in the classroom of my shop. After several years, I turned the Quilt Show over to the Guild. They have made a tremendous success of this show and it is now one of the best in Southern California. I am very proud of them.

While I had the shop I designed a Friendship Quilt to remember all my teachers and employees. I designed the blocks, with their talents and interests in mind, and they embroidered them and signed their names. This pattern eventually became # 18, "The Quilters, set #1". I made a pattern of this and sold it only in my shop. It was so popular, I designed two more, # 16, "Little Girls" and # 17, "Little Boys".

Of course, at this time they didnít have numbers. I was not selling them anywhere else, except at my Shop and at various Quilt Shows where I had a booth.

After my husband and I retired from the shop, a friend and former employee, who had a booth at many Quilt Shows, asked if she could sell them in her booth. Redwork was becoming very popular and customers asked for more patterns. So I did a few more.

About ten years ago we sold our house and began traveling in our fifth wheel. We decided that this little pattern thing could be expanded to a real business which would be perfect for on the road. I could visit Quilt Shops and Quilt Shows all over the country, and maybe make a little traveling money on the side. We carried our patterns in the basement of our RV and received our orders from the internet and cell phone wherever we were. We have been to every state, (except Alaska. I am holding out for a cruise!), seen beautiful and historic places, and met so many nice people.

Now we have decided to settle down in California, where our children live. My husband is building a sewing room on our house. (I can hardly wait.) and he has his building for all the patterns, etc. We will continue our Redwork design business from here. I now have 39 patterns and 2 CDs for machine embroidery. Every time I think I am at a stopping place I get a new idea. Watch this site for new designs!
